Henri Le Fauconnier

17.   Le Fauconnier: Abundance, 1910

First phase of Cubism.  A very fine example of the re-evaluation of volume.  The perspective unity is not called into question.  The descriptive anecdote is only a pretext for the play of weight and of density.  The colour gives way to a grey which we can immediately see is an essential component of the picture.

18.   Le Fauconnier:  The Hunter, 1911

Second phase of Cubism.  One of the masterpieces of this period.  All the problems are addressed:  volume, translation seen in perspective, arrangement into a circle, rhythmic repetitions.  It is pressing towards the goal of a new plastic order which corresponds to a state of mind based on the mobility of the world.
