Single elements

We do not have such a complete record of preparatory sketches for this first phase in the development as we do once Jellett starts making compositions with multiple elements. This is a fairly arbitrary collection of preparatory and almost realised sketches. Note the interest in working with and trying to derive the composition from frames other than the usual rectangle. Gleizes and Jellett eventually concluded that the vertical and horizontal were fundamental to our nature and had to be the basis for the translation/stability regardless of the overall shape of the frame.
